Learning at Little Fern

Little Fern offers a rich educational program where children are exposed to a wide variety of subjects taught using high quality resources. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we offer a curriculum meeting the academic needs of preschool-aged children.

At Little Fern, the classrooms are set up as ever-changing spaces, based on the projects and interests of the children. These spaces are flexible while also providing all of the learning areas children will need for the in-depth inquiry based learning throughout the day.

The Reggio Emilia Approach

This Philosophy was developed after World War II by Loris Malaguzzi and parents in the villages around Reggio Emilia, Italy. This is a student centered and constructivist approach to teaching and learning. It uses child led, experiential learning in relationship with the environment.

Reggio presents children with “a hundred languages”, through which they can express their ideas and show their thinking. Languages include, painting, sculpting, drama, and music.

The Reggio philosophy is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community building. Children experience these principles through exploration and discovery through a self-guided curriculum.
